A recent article in the Daily Mail (UK) showed images of staff crawling round a lake as punishment for not hitting their sales targets. The Company in question even provided a supervisor to ensure staff didn’t ‘slack off’.
With this in mind it’s unsurprising that in Australia (and many other parts of the world) the top ranking reason for an employee resigning is … their manager! Conversely working for a great manager often prevents staff from being tempted away for extra $$$. Many companies now refuse to tolerate workplace bullying and take ‘employee engagement’ very seriously not only for the well being of their employees but it also makes economic sense!
Whilst Fairwork and HR/Line Managers across Australia I am confident would not tolerate such behaviour as crawling round a lake – the reality of workplace bullying and ‘inappropriate requests’ does exist.
